Global warming will kill us. How to stop it? Science tells us that cities and construction creates 25-30% of gases that contribute to global warming. Whatever the figure might be, imagine cities that, like forests, are ecosystems that produce oxygen that generate a “positive carbon footprint”, if that term, will ever exist. The cities must be the forests of the future; in this scenario, every town and city in the Planet is like the subtropical oceans, the Amazon forest: net oxygen producers in the global carbon cycle. With this ideal in mind we took the densest mix-use project we were working on, and treated every surface, every envelope, every façade, as a planter. Planter for local vegetation to take root. Of course, we were looking at our colleagues in Milan, who were actually building the “Bosco verticale”, a sublime architectural masterpieces. The project is in Thane, north of Mumbai, so tropical lush vegetation for the “Bosco tropicale”.
